Easily Print Envelopes on your Mac

Posted on 15 January 2011 | by Ryan Battles

I know you can print envelopes from Word or your address book, but I always have to remind myself how to do it, and printing a one-off envelope seems rather cumbersome.  Today I found a dashboard widget that makes things incredibly simple.

Ambrosia Software has a free dashboard widget called EasyEnvelopes.  This widget will run on any mac running OS 10.4 or higher.  What it does is simple, allows you to print an envelope quickly with very simple to use controls.

The screenshot above shows how you can type out an address on the fly, or choose from someone in your address book.  Clicking on the stamp is how you print the envelope.  When clicking the "i" for more information and options, you are able to choose the following:

  • Custom return address
  • Default return address
  • Upload an image for a return address label
  • Change the fonts
  • Print a USPS barcode (potentially speeding up the processing)

All-in-all it is a very easy to use widget that will allow me to quickly print out envelopes for one-off occasions.  If I need to do some mass mailings, well, then I will turn to Address Book or Word, and have to figure it all out again.

Yeah, I ended up using it for estimated tax payments this year. Since I have to send taxes 4x/yr to fedaral, state, and local addresses, I just printed all of them out at once so they are ready to go on specific dates. It's much easier to print them 4 times now, than to look up the addresses later in the year.

How do you change the return address on the dashboard widget?
