Internet Presence Management

Posted on 4 October 2010 | by JR Rozko

Social media as content and social networking as an activity are the main ingredients in the burgeoning enterprise of Internet Presence Management.  More and more organizations are recruiting people who know the contours of the worlds of social media and social networking to manage their Internet presence.

Here, I want to make a case for why I think those skilled in Internet Presence Management will be increasingly necessary to the success of companies large and small.

1) The median age of those who are Internet savvy and high users of channels of social networking is only going up.  Translation, more and more people are readily and naturally accessing online content through social media and social networking.

2) It takes far less time to create quality content (writing, images, videos, etc.) to disseminate through the Internet than from hand to hand.  And let's face it, we could all use more time right?!

3) With the use of good analytic sources, you have nearly immediate feedback in terms of the effectiveness of your communication.  Then enables even the largest of companies to be nimble and responsive to the feedback they are getting.

4) In terms of communication through social networking channels, you can be more selective about the people you mean to reach.  Although first, I suppose, you have to believe that communicating to a specific audience is always better than trying to communicate to everyone - a post for another time perhaps.

5) Having a solid Internet presence often results in a heightened sense of familiarity between your clients/customers and your business - at least on the front end.  Look at it this way, you can give others the opportunity to learn a lot about you before they actually connect with you which means that when they finally do, they are already much more committed than the average client/customer.

These are just a few thoughts off the top of my head as someone who is relatively new to the professional field of Internet Presence Management.  Any other IPM's out there (or anyone for that matter) who want to add to this list?  Anyone thinking about hiring a someone to do Internet Presence Management and have questions?
